Pet Sounds is the 11th studio album by The Beach Boys, originally released on May 16, 1966 in Mono and Duophonic mixes. The Mono mix is available on the 1990 CD reissue and The Pet Sounds Sessions, which also includes a complete stereo remix of the whole album. Both mixes are also available on a 2001 CD reissue. A 5.1 surround sound mix is available on a DVD–A of the album. The Duophonic mix is unavailable on digital formats. Pet Sounds was initially met with a lukewarm critical and commercial response in the US, peaking at number 10 on Billboard’s LP chart. In the UK, the album was lauded by critics and reached number 2 on the Top 40 album chart, remaining in the top ten for six months. Promoted in the UK as “the most progressive pop album ever, Pet Sounds garnered recognition for its ambitious production, sophisticated music, and emotional lyric content.
